What is Senior Living Actually Like?
A Day in the Life of a Canterfield Resident
The biggest challenge for senior living (and, consequently, for seniors seeking a lifestyle of assisted care) is education. The language and the research are hurdles of their own. But after all of that, the next big question comes: What is senior living actually like?
There are a million misrepresentations of senior living, from nursing homes to hospice and private care. As much as we explain the active and independent lifestyle of a senior living community, plus the built-in continuum of care, it is hard for people to wrap their heads around.
So, we decided it was time to show, instead of tell.
Dolores is an 83 year old mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who has been living at Canterfield of Kennesaw for 7 years. She is a vibrant member of the community and is always eager to partake in new activities. She participates in the Cooking and Baking Clubs and volunteers at the Canterfield library. During her time at Canterfield, she has read 620 books and documented every one in her reading diary. She was the winner of Kings in the Corner Tournament and a Cornhole Tournament winner!
Dolores has a group of girl friends who she eats lunch with every day. They share novels, discuss the big events at the community, and check in on each other’s health and well-being.
Canterfield’s CNA, Courtney, manages Dolores’ medicine and doctor’s appointments.
Every now and then, Dolores goes on a weekend excursion with a few other residents for shopping and gambling!
Dolores has a full, beautiful life at Canterfield, family that visit her often, and fellow residents that have become close friends. Dolores is a prime example of what an active and independent life can look like at a senior living community.
Thanks so much to Dolores for letting us share her story and her life at Canterfield!
