A Canterfield Love Story
Of Clay County Residents Mike & Pansye
Mike had been a resident at Canterfield for 4 years when Pansye moved in. Pansye said of Mike, “He had such a good reputation as a nice, kind guy. And he hardly spoke to me at all the first month!” With encouragement from a friend, Mike began to reach out to Pansye. They became fast friends, talking for a few weeks before Mike suggested, “Do you mind if I kiss you?” Pansye responded with a kiss.
“We both weren’t looking for anything. But I thought, I’ll try and see what happens. And you can see what happened.” Mike said while holding Pansye’s hand.
It is clear to everyone how happy they are together. Their favorite things to do together are “sitting, talking, and laughing together. And holding hands!” Mike said. They watch Carol Barnett together and “laugh and laugh and laugh,” Pansye said.
After meeting each other’s families over the holidays, they set the date for their commitment ceremony.
On January 11, 2025, Mike and Pansye had a commitment ceremony in the Canterfield lobby. The couple remarked at how surprised they were by the turnout. Mike had a son and step-son in attendance. Pansye’s son, daughter, sister, and brother were in attendance, as well as residents and staff.
Pansye’s son walked her down the iconic Canterfield stairwell and the aisle. “A lot of my dreams came true in this marriage,” Pansye said. “I always thought it was so beautiful to see a bride walk down the stairs.”
The couple stood under a flower arch as they said their vows, and a member from Pansye’s church played soft piano music behind it all.
Afterwards, Twala, the Activities Director organized a beautiful and bountiful reception. The couple cut a cake and the evening ended in dancing.
“Thanks to Twala, I had a wedding that was a dream,” Pansye said.
