Resident Spotlight: Carol Roberts

An Artistic Life at Canterfield

Carol's gallery wall at Canterfield of Franklin

Carol (McClintock) Roberts, along with her husband Al, became Canterfield of Franklin’s first residents in August 2018.  Carol has since integrated her passion for photography and gardening into the Canterfield community.

Her fascination with photography began as a young girl while watching her father develop film in his dark room.  He was a photographer for the Uvalde Leader News in Uvalde, Texas and her father’s tips for taking pictures have stayed with her to this day. Her retirement coincided with the acceptance of a Nikon digital camera.  Her first photo was an old, dilapidated barn.  After witnessing many barns falling down or being torn down, Carol took as many barn pictures as possible as a way of creating a visual memory of the beautiful state of Tennessee.

In connection with the Canterfield theme, Carol has a gallery wall in the community featuring her barn and horse theme photos.

Her creative side lead her to collect dried goods (pinecones, wood, tree bark, etc.) which added a unique dimension to her photos.  She also used her photos to make frame-able greeting cards, coasters, wreaths, and magnets.

Besides all her beautiful pictures, Carol also has a passion for gardening as this is evident in all the plants and flowers that make up our landscaping.  One project she created was painting an old bathtub and planting flowers inside, which is now the gorgeous centerpiece in our courtyard.

We have all learned not to throw anything away — we simply give the items to Carol and she creates a masterpiece.

Thank you, Carol, for sharing your photography and artistic gifts with your Canterfield family!
